What Is The Standard Game Designer Salary

These days, it seems to be every young boy’s dream to grow up and become a graphics or video game designer. My own son wants to go to college for this and I have to admit, I’ve been a little apprehensive. Concerned that he would end up wasting his college education on something that may or may not pan out seemed a bit foolish to me but I suppose college is the time to get all of your foolishness out. Believe it or not, there are actually bachelors degrees available in video game design, but the game designer salary isn’t always astronomical to start.

You have to realize that with any job that you are hired to do, you are typically starting out low man on the totem pole. There will be steps you have to take and objectives you’ll have to meet in order to work your way up the chain.

When you are first hired on by a video game design company, you may be doing some basic programming or you may be coloring in characters, helping sync video and audio or you may even be simply fetching someones coffee. Game animators make a very good wage, as well and this is a great way to really get the feel for the entire process that goes into video game design.

However, hopefully you will have achieved enough success during your college experience to either start out in a higher position or can quickly work your way to the most satisfactory level possible.

Salary ranges for designers are anywhere from 55000 a year to over 100000 a year, depending of course, on experience, location and the company that you go to work for. There is definitely good money to be made but you must be willing to put in a little elbow grease and time before you can get a higher game designer salary.
