The Job Of A Web Designer Is More Than Creating A Professional Looking Site

The job of a web designer, simply put, is to design websites. These can range from the simplest sites with just a few pages to the far more complex. The more knowledge that a designer has, the more marketable he or she will be in the field.

Web designing in its simplest form is similar to graphic design. While it is important to have the design sense, however, it is also very important to be able to understand the function as well as the form of the site. Usability of the site is as important as looking good.

More complicated websites can include a variety of elements, including ones that are interactive. Animation, videos, music are all things that can be included on a website and require more knowledge on the part of the designer. Some pages also include motion and these require a further level of design or programming ability.

A web designer needs to be able to sit down with his or her client and discuss more than ideas about the look of the website. The designer needs to be able to get a clear understanding of the business itself. Then, designer and client need to discuss what the goals are to be achieved with the website.

The website designer needs to take into consideration how to get people to the site and how to get them to take an action once they are there. Encouraging traffic to the website, converting those visitors to customers and keeping track of it all are all part of website design.

It is much easier to get the website designed right the first time. Therefore, a web designer who really understands business in general and the business of websites in particular can be an invaluable asset to any company. And this ability can translate into a higher web design salary for the savvy designer.
