I Wish I Could Use Open Office at Work
If I had a choice, I would make use of Open Office for my documents. I like how it looks. I like how it works for the most part. And I like the fact that it’s part of the wave of open source software. Just looking at it sometimes, I find it really amazing that something that can do so much was created by people, without any intent to profit from it. I really appreciate the people whose efforts helped bring this software suite about, and I want to support it, not just by donating, but also by getting the word out about this great product.
Unfortunately, at work, I’m compelled for a number of reasons to use Microsoft Office. I don’t have any problem with the product or anything, and in some ways it does things better than the open source software, but I’d really prefer it if I didn’t have to. Also, I’m hoping that Open Office will help Microsoft Office reconsider its current pricing strategy, among other things. Maybe since there’s more competition now, the good folks over at Microsoft will consider bringing their prices down a notch, which would be great for small businesses and enterprises.
I’m also hoping that the Microsoft Office help system will be improved. There have been so many instances where I’ve come across a problem which I can’t fix. Before I would check the help file for information, but I wouldn’t usually find anything specifically useful there. That’s why now, I just skip ahead to the part where I google the error or issue, and look for solutions posted on line. If MS could improve their help system further, then that would be one reason to choose their suite over the other currently available.
